Carrier oils play a very important role in the natural skin
care movement. Carrier oils carry essential oils and the benefits to the skin.
Today’s oils of discussions are oils that can not only be used on the skin but
also cooked with.
One oil that I use a lot is grapeseed oil, it’s a thinner
oil that is great for cooking, hair and skin care. Grapeseed oil is mostly made
of polyunsaturated fats like omega-6s and omega-9 fatty acids which can be good
anti-inflammatory healthy fats that are good for hormones, brain health, heart
health and tissue fibers. All those omega-6s can be a bad thing for people who
may already have too much in their diet. Grapeseed oil contains small amounts
of vitamin E.
Grapeseed oil is a great hair moisturizer and conditioner.
It helps with hair problems like weakened hair, hair loss, and dandruff. Using
correctly grapeseed oil in your hair can result in stronger, healthier, and
more attractive hair. It helps to lock in moisture to prevent frizz, split
ends, and brittle hair. Helps relieve dandruff when used as a scalp massage
oil, it loosens the skin and allows the oil to be absorbed while promoting
blood flow. Grapeseed oil contains antioxidants that is said to help block DHT
which is a hormone that causes hair loss. Grapeseed oil can be a great oil for
doing hot oil treatments with the vitamin E, antioxidants and fatty acid it can
promote hair growth and restore strength and shine.
Grapeseed oil is a thinner oil that is good for the face
because it won’t clog pores. With the antioxidants and the anti-inflammatory
properties in grapeseed oil it works great for treating acne. It has astringent
qualities that can help tighten skin and close pores. This is a great oil for
people with oily skin. Grapeseed oil has been said to help reduce under eye
dark circle. I personally haven’t used it for that purpose but I will be trying
it. It’s a great moisturizer the is good even to sensitive skin. Grapeseed oil
is one of the oils used in Heavenly Blessings green tea facial moisturizer as
well as a lot of other Heavenly Blessings products.
Another oil that I love is peanut nut oil, yes peanut oil.
This oil of course has a slight nutty smell and taste but it is good for far
more that cooking. Peanut oil is great as a massage oil, alone or mixed with
other oils or your favorite essential oil. Peanut oil has been said to help
with joint problems, dry brittle hair, flaky scalp and split ends. I love using
peanut oil mixed with a few drops of tea tree oil in my shampoo to help with my
itchy scalp syndrome. When used in the hair, peanut oil reduces protein loss,
thickens the hair, adds moisture to split ends and regenerates damaged hair. Use
peanut oil to help rid your face of those stubborn blackheads. Peanut oil is
another one of those thinner oils that will not clog your pores. Many lotions
and creams have peanut oil in them but of course if you are allergic to peanuts
do not use peanut oil. Because of the slight nutty aroma of peanut oil, it makes
a great oil for aromatherapy.
The next oil up for discussion that I use a lot is sunflower
oil. Sunflower oil is great oil for the skin with its calming and moisturizing
properties. Sunflower oil is rich in nutrients and antioxidants which can be
very effective against acne, eczema, inflammation, general redness and
irritation of the skin. Sunflower oil is very high in vitamin E and helps
retain moisture in the skin as well as a skin barrier because of the supply
vitamins A, C, and D. This oil can also help prevent premature signs of aging. When
mixed with castor oil, sunflower oil can make your skin supple and remove dead cells
and impurities.
Sunflower oil has high levels of oleic acid which is an
omega 9 acid that help stimulate hair growth. It also contains potassium, iron,
and calcium. Using sunflower oil in your hair results in softening of the hair
and adds a delightful sheen, helps control frizz, tackles dryness and damage
and makes hair manageable. Sunflower oil is great mixed with conditioner and
also helps with breakage and thinning. Sunflower oil also provides some UV
protection and is a great aromatherapy oil. As with any oil if you have an
allergy to the nut or seed that produces these oils you should avoid them.
